Mozilla Firefox 0.9 Released

From mozilla.org:

The Mozilla Foundation today announced the immediate availability of a new preview release of its next generation web browser, Mozilla Firefox 0.9. Faster, more secure, easier to use and sporting a new look, this latest Firefox release sets a new standard for web browser innovation.

I have an admission to make: I’ve always been an avid champion of MSIE, in fact the only time I’ve ever let Netscape or any of its numerous relatives near one of my machines was when I needed to verify that a web page would work ok for the 0.000001% of the Internet population (mostly Mac users) that actually ran it.

Until today that is. Trawling through all the latest techy news on Neowin, I came across the above announcement and thought “hey, there’s a lot of talk about this Firefox nonsense, lets check it out.. at least I’ll know if my new site looks ok with it”. So after a paltry 5mb download (can’t be that good for only 5mb now can it..) I fired it up, imported all my IE settings with one click of the mouse and browsed away… and I’m still using it now several hours later, in fact I may even keep it for a while ;)

To be honest, as far as I’m concerned a browser is a browser; it either displays websites as they were intended or it doesn’t. I’m not sure if Firefox is any quicker at what it does, if it is then the difference isn’t that much.. but somehow it just seems, well, nicer.

Edit: Check out the Web Developer Extension for Firefox… I’m in heaven!
